Legacy/Bequest fundraisers are big victims of short-termism. Unless they kill their donors, which is not good, they really can't have an enormous impact on income really quickly.
But charities, please don't slash bequest budgets because of the financial crisis. Yes, bequest values are going to be down but less of something is better than all of nothing.
And if you only ever mention residuary (percentage of estate) bequests / legacies you will increase your average by much more than whatever happens to the economy.

Trillion dollar advertising campaign
The Zimbabwean (a newspaper) is running a campaign printed on banknotes - they are calling this the first trillion dollar advertising campaign.
